We all know how color can affect us without our knowing. Red flares
us up, cerulean blue calms, while yellow is contagiously happy. People
in the real estate business as a matter of fact use this knowledge not
just to up the value of properties, but to convince their buyers to
close the deal as well.
Repainting is the easiest and often cheapest way to renovate your house.
And it sure is fun. However, don't get carried away with the whole painting
business by buying gallons of paint in unpronounceable colors. "Blazing
Avocado" or "Magenta Surprise" may initially seem like
exciting colors to choose, but keep in mind that you will have to put
up with them for a long time and you may not seem so excited after all
by then. It's wise then to stick with color schemes that are classic
and safe but elegant, and which won't clash with the neighborhood. You
can never go wrong with white, cream, pale blue, and other subdued tones.
If prospective buyers feel soothed by your house's color, then it's
more likely that they'll be in a buying mood.
Browse books about home design to have an idea of just how colors and
their combination can give a dramatic effect to your house. The basics,
of course, are: Light colors make a room seem large while dark ones
make it small. Reds and oranges are warm, while blues and greens are
cool. As much as possible, strive for harmony when choosing a color
scheme; although don't let us stop you from experimenting. That is,
as long as you know the effect you want to achieve.
So do your homework. Dont tire looking at swatches of colors
and combining them. Make friends with your local hardware store. Invest
on a good set of brushes and rollers, buy only quality paint, and have
fun coloring! In the end, it all pays, and youll be glad you did!
